Hostec trainer Joanna with trainees at AMF Bowling Centre
Hostec welcomes Phillip Chavez to the traineeships division. He is the youngest member of the team and will be supporting the group as a junior administrator/office all rounder. It is his first office experience since graduating from high school. Some interesting facts about Phillip are that his parents are Chilean and he speaks Spanish fluently. At Hostec, Phillip is learning the ways of the corporate environment and gaining valuable skills that will help him for his future.
People love dealing with staff who truly love their job! Be excited when you welcome them, passionate when you when you communicate verbally or when using your body language, and show enthusiasm describing the benefits of your facilities and services. This WILL engage them.
You will never be criticised for doing too much for a customer! – Commit to creating a wow factor for your customers/ guests. Whether you make a courtesy call to newly arrived guest to advise of any specials in the restaurant, organise VIP treatment on their birthday, or provide a personal telephone wake up call, you have the power to make their day.
Acknowledge everyone – even if it’s a quick eye contact! – 92% of customers leave service providers as they feel being taken for granted. If you see customers/guest approaching while you are serving another customer always ensure you create eye contact with those who will have to wait while adding “ I will be with you shortly Sir/Madam”. They can see you are busy and just like you to acknowledge their presence.
Present yourself – well groomed with excellent posture. People love dealing with those who come across as professional and confident.
Products come and products got. Going the extra mile in your service delivery is what creates true value in the eyes of your customer, develop satisfaction and loyalty. Be sure to build /update your guest profile and use guest specific information to deliver personalised service.
Yours truly,
The Traineeships Team
The Traineeships team at Hostec would like to extend a very warm welcome to their newest addition – Vanessa Rider.
Vanessa has had a very colourful career history working within the Hospitality Industry and has worked in five star hotels both nationally and internationally throughout the last 15 years. Vanessa started in Food and Beverage Operations at the Regent in Sydney, completed a 2 year stint at the Regent in London, returned downunder to work in the Sydney Marriot for 4 years and then relocated to Mirvac Sebel in Melbourne as F&B manager.
Vanessa’s love for the Industry took her to Hong Kong where she worked at the Grand Hyatt as Training Manager/Assistant HR for 4 years. Feeling a little homesick, Vanessa once again returned downunder to work in the Shangri-La as Training Manager and was soon moved to the HR Department.
After the long hours and extensive travel, Vanessa happily took a well earned 12 months off to catch up on some R&R before deciding to return to full-time work. With all of her experience and know-how, Vanessa wanted to ”keep her finger in the Hospitality pie” so to speak and made the move to the Traineeships Department at Hostec.
We are delighted to have Vanessa join us and know that this will be the next great adventure in her career.
Finally! We have Retail on scope!
In an effort to expand the courses we already have available, the Hostec Traineeships team is currently working with Service Skills Australia to provide fantastic new resources for trainees who wish to complete their Certificate II or Certificate III in Retail through workplace assessments.
Both the Certificate II and III in Retail are conducted at your workplace for a period of twelve months and include a variety of streams such as clothing and personal products, cosmetics, administration and electronics.
Completing a Certificate through a traineeship is a fantastic way to recognise the skills you are already utilising in your workplace. Instead of enrolling in TAFE or uni, you can complete a nationally recognised qualification while you work!
So if you want to up your skills in the retail world, check out Hostec’s website or www.serviceskills.com.au for more information.
Hostec has once again joined the numerous hotels and hoteliers around Australasia this past Friday evening in attendance of the HM Awards 2009, recognising the outstanding performance and contribution that individuals have made to the hospitality industry. Our CEO, Ian Wilson, along with Andrew Morley, Angus Muffet, Jessica Rowley, Tina Sofroniou, and 12 of our academy students made their presence felt on the night as representatives of Hostec.
Competition was fierce on the night with a total of 40 awards to be handed out to the ‘bests of the bests’ of this year. Our very own Mr. Morley was up on stage presenting the Human Resources Department Member of the Year, sponsored by Hostec, to Jayne Webb of the Brisbane Marriott in Queensland. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Crowne Plaza of IHG for winning the Hotel Brand of the Year, Mirvac Hotels & Resorts for Accommodation Chain of the Year, and last but not least Mr. Simon McGrath of Accor Hospitality for the HM Magazine ‘Hotelier of the Year’.
We would also like to say a big thanks to our Academy students and compliment them on the fantastic job they have done on Friday night. Dressed to kill in outfits supplied by leading design house ‘Farage’ for the guys and ‘Fluerwood’ for the gals and with their hair dressed by Venus Hairdressing College, they were on hand to assist with cocktail service, and provided guidance to award recipients leading them onto the stage and to the photo area after. Well done to all!!
In addition, a special thanks to Jessica and Tina of the Academy for their weeks of planning and organising to make the night a very special one for our students.
The Hostec Traineeships Team wish to extend our congratulations to Reid Green from the Bavarian Hospitality Group as he has progressed to the finals of the NSW Trainee of the Year.
The selection process includes each of the Department’s 9 State Training Centres assessing entries in the trainee of the year category. Finalists and winners are selected through an interview process at a state level. The state selection process will be held in Sydney in the first week of August and the winner is announced at the NSW Training Awards Presentation Event.
The awards will be held on the 10th September 2009 at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Center.
